Camping in Colorado State Parks

There is nothing quite like sleeping under the stars. Colorado is one of the best spots in the country for camping, and many of these camping spots are near Denver. No matter if you are looking for an intense backcountry getaway or a relaxing weekend at the campground, there is a place for every type of camper. Although there are a couple Colorado camping restrictions, we are here to help you find the perfect destination for camping in Colorado State Parks.

 

Boyd Lake State Park

Less than an hour and a half north of Denver, Boyd Lake State Park is the perfect location for a weekend camping trip. The lake itself has over 1,700 square miles of water to explore via all types of watercrafts. Their 148 campsites at Cottonwood Campground are first class. With completely paved pull-through spots that can accommodate vehicles up to 40 feet long, this campground is the perfect place to retreat to after a long day on Boyd Lake. The park itself is completely open but officials ask that campers practice social distancing and stay home if they are feeling ill. Make sure you make a reservation for your campsite because sites fill up quick! 

 

Mueller State Park 

This state park is located around two hours south of Denver and boasts beautiful meadows and wildlife. Its 134 sites are all open for reservation for campers of all disciplines. There are sites for tent camping, group camping, RVs, and even sites compatible for equestrian trailers. During the day, campers can explore the rich wildlife landscape that the park has to offer via its many trails. The entire park, including trails and indoor structures at the park are open. Mueller State Park officials ask that visitors practice social distancing and stay home if they are feeling ill. 

 

Eleven Mile State Park

Located two and a half hours away from Denver, Eleven Mile State Park is a secluded getaway from the heat of the city. Within the park, there are 325 campsites in nine different campgrounds that surround the park’s lake. The sites range from walk-up sites to electrical hook-ups for RVs or trailers along the lake. Fishing on the reservoir or in nearby rivers and streams is gold medal rated. Nearly five miles of scenic trails for hiking and biking can also be found in Eleven Mile State Park. Park officials ask that visitors practice social distancing and stay home if they are feeling ill.
