Biking
The Lake Tahoe area is known for it’s amazing selection of biking trails. There are trails for all skill levels. Northstar Bike Park is a lift accessed single track park with a multitude of trails, even those specifically for e-bikes. The resort itself even offers lessons for those looking to up their game. For a longer trail, the Flume Trail is a great option. It is a 14 mile out and back trail with awesome sections of singletrack and some great climbing. If you are looking for a great introduction to single track, especially for kids, the Pioneer Trail is the place to start. A short section of single track connects to a double track road with scenic views and easy riding. No matter where you go, you are in for a great day on two wheels.
Hiking
Hiking around Lake Tahoe is an amazing way to enjoy the scenic views it has to offer. Emerald State Park is a popular destination just North of South Lake Tahoe with incredible vistas and a plethora of great trails. This is a great spot for the best variety of trails. For a short but scenic hike, Cascade Falls is a 1.4 mile out and back trail near Tahoma, CA. The short length makes it great for kids or a spontaneous adventure. The more expert hikers should check out the Rubicon Trail. It is 16.4 miles out and back and a moderate difficulty of trail. If you are in it for the long haul, this trail has beautiful flowers, waterfalls, and vistas.
Paddle
The obvious location for paddle sports is Lake Tahoe proper. With almost 200 square miles of water, the lake is an amazing spot for kayaking, paddle boarding, and boating in general. Lake Tahoe consists of two parts: North Lake Tahoe and Tahoe South. Both are great for watersports of all kinds. The clear, calm waters make it a perfect spot for a relaxing paddle. If you are looking for a more secluded, small body of water, Fallen Leaf Lake is the spot for you. The smaller size makes it less intimidating for kids and it is not as busy as Lake Tahoe. This is a great place for those looking for a more local experience. For those looking for an adrenaline fix, the Truckee River offers exciting rapids. Many outfitters offer rafting experiences in the area. More talented kayakers also paddle the whitewater of this river.
