Colorado Ski Resorts That Double As Mountain Biking Spots

The ski resorts of Colorado are a big part of the state’s identity. Their mountain town character and access to outdoor activities year-round make it a great destination in any season. Many people know these resorts for their skiing and snowboarding, but summer in the Colorado Rockies provide a lot of great downhill mountain parks at these same resorts. Here are our favorite Colorado ski resorts that double as mountain biking spots.

 

Aspen/Snowmass 

Distance from Denver: 4 hours 

Aspen is known as a luxury ski destination around the world. Summer in Aspen brings less crowds and amazing mountain biking. The Snowmass Bike Park has 3,000 vertical feet of masterfully built downhill trails. It is a mountain biker’s dream! This park is also one of only 7 IMBA Gold-Level Ride Centers in the world. Breckenridge  

Distance from Denver: 2 hours 

Breckenridge is a Colorado ski destination with a lot of character. Along with its lively mainstreet and snow sports, it provides a lot of great mountain biking in the summer. The trails at the Breckenridge resort are great for both beginners and experts alike. One can also venture out of the resort and explore the trails around town. Crested Butte

Distance from Denver: 4 hours 

Crested Butte is widely considered as the last real ski town. With a funky little town and the best of people, this is a great place to explore in any season. In the summer, the resort has 30 miles of singletrack accessible through the lifts. The surrounding area is also known for its many great mountain biking trails. Vail

Distance from Denver: 2 hours

The European style streets of Vail are always full of visitors no matter what season. Its world-class skiing is partnered with great mountain biking trails in the summer. Due to COVID, its chair lifts won’t be open to mountain bikers this 2020 season, but don’t let that dissuade you from exploring the 343 miles of mountain biking trails within the resort.
